"Connecting Our Community"
History of BWNG
BWNG has certainly come a long way from its humble beginning in 1989 when the Neighbourhood Centre was formed in order to procure funding for a speech therapist for Gloucester Hospital.
Identifying further gaps in the community, more funding from the Department of Community Services (DOCS) was secured to assist local individuals and groups who were disadvantaged financially and geographically.
BWNG continued to expand with the purchase of The Cottage in Tyrell Street to provide space for the disability services and was used for many years.
Aged care services were rolled out offering transport, meals on wheels, social activities and respite care.
More programs were offered to support the younger people of the community with a Post School Care program offering tutoring and vacation care beginning in 2000.
In 2006, BWNG purchased a building in Queen Street to allow the Neighbourhood Centre to expand its services even further. These services provided emergency relief packages and support to those experiencing domestic and/or emotional distress. The Neighbourhood Centre also housed a Centrelink agent, giving locals access to Government organisations.
Acknowledging another gap in community services, BWNG began offering local training programs which continue to grow in popularity and variety.
With demand for our services increasing, 2012 saw BWNG move into the old CRT building in King Street. The Cottage moved in next door with the larger space creating room for BWNG's growing staff and services.
Today, the BWNG possesses highly functional training rooms to run educational courses, a new logo and a streamlined staffing structure. Through all our changes and growth we still retain the original desire to ensure Gloucester and its surrounds has these essential community services.
